Environmental Stewardship

Enviromental Stewardship

The Environmental Stewardship Committee was formed in 2004 with a general focus of promoting environmental stewardship of the natural resources which have been loaned to us by God.  The purpose of this church committee is to promote responsible environmental stewardship at St. Mark’s by promoting policies and activities that reduce pollution, use energy efficiently, sustain the environment, and protect God’s creatures.

During its early years, the committee spent a considerable amount of time researching "green building" options for the new St. Mark’s campus and presented recommendations to the Building Committee for a sustainable, energy efficient campus, and also introduced recycling.  During the past year we have focused on landscaping for the new St. Mark’s campus.  The creation of the Landscaping Subcommittee, formed earlier this year to specifically address St. Mark’s landscaping needs and led by Florence Dodington was, the Environmental Stewardship Committee is now ready to regain its focus on the larger environmental stewardship picture.

New initiatives are in the development process which incorporate both education and action aimed at improving our stewardship role at St. Mark’s.  Annual Environmental Stewardship Sundays are held to educate the parish community on various aspects of this stewardship.  The group introduced the ONE campaign and spearheaded St. Mark's becoming a ONE church in 2008.

The committee meets monthly and it welcomes new energy!  This is an opportunity to focus our efforts and truly make an impact for the betterment of us all in our own back yard.
